CHS Puts New Schedule into Motion
Chillicothe High School is operating under a new schedule this year.
To start, CHS students have a later start time as the opening bell sounds at 8:20 a.m., Monday through Friday. In previous years, the doors opened at 7:15 a.m. Now, classes officially begin at 8:40 a.m. each day, and students are dismissed from school at 3:35 p.m.

For the last two years, students have been using a block schedule, which means students took about five classes per semester. Under the new year-long schedule, students take six to seven classes with the addition of two new periods: Academic Options and Club.
“This period (Academic Options) is designed to meet students' needs, whether through credit recovery, enrichment/extension, or a study hall,” said Dustin Weaver, Chillicothe High School Principal. “Club Period, on the other hand, meets for 45 minutes on Wednesdays only.”
These clubs, which aren't for a grade, range from stitching to fantasy football to gardening.
"All in all, additional seat time, fewer disruptions to classes, Academic Options, and Club Period should not only lead to a stronger learning environment but also make CHS a happier place," Weaver said.
