19th Annual EMPixx Competition


Schools from Ohio, Kentucky, and West Virginia took part in the 19th annual EMPixx Media Arts Competition, which recognizes schools for their level of production skills and multimedia quality.

The event, held at Ohio University Southern, offered various workshops for those in attendance and concluded with an awards presentation for the following categories: Animation, Digital Photography, Entertainment, Independent, Multimedia print, News Cast, News feature, Radio Commercial, Sports News Feature, Video Commercial, Best of Show, Audio Scholarship and Video Scholarship.

For a second consecutive year, CHS students in PRCTC satellite instructor Vanessa George's Video Broadcasting class took first place in the Newscast category.

CHS students return from EMPixx on Friday.

Cavaliers Caroline Crock, Luke Smith, and Malachi Mitchell, led by Jaymie Grim, took second place News Feature for their piece, The MakerSpace.

Additionally, Jasmine Roper, Cameron Snowden, and Makenzie Greene, who are in George's Video Production class, earned second place in Entertainment for their short called Trapped.

Locally, students from Ross County's Southeastern High School received awards in the news feature, sports feature, and video commercial categories.

2nd: Don't Be a Distraction by Southeastern High School

1st: Beyond the Bottle by Lewis County High School and Bully Awareness by Chesapeake High School
