Government Shutdown
On Saturday January 20, the government entered into a federal shutdown.
Senate democrats and republicans, unable to come to an agreement on the federal budget, caused this shutdown.
What is a government shutdown?Exactly what it sounds like. Most parts of the government will not be running due to the lack of funding.
This includes federal museums, Department of Labor, Department of Transportation, and many other facets of the government.
If you are considered an essential employee, such as military workers, social security employees, and postal services, you will be forced to work but go unpaid until after the government opens back up.
The last government shutdown lasted 16 days in 2013 and cost the government millions in damages.
