Chillicothe Competes in Battle of the Brains


Last weekend, the Chillicothe High School Quiz Bowl team traveled to Adena High School to participate in a small tournament with Waverly and Adena in preparation for each team’s league play, starting this winter.

The three schools broke into eight teams, with Adena and Waverly forming A, B, and C teams and Chillicothe forming A and B teams to compete in a round-robin-style tournament.

Chillicothe A - made up of seniors and returning players - finished in second place with a (6-1) record, losing only to Waverly A in the final match of the tournament.

Chillicothe B - made up of rookies and first time competitors - finished in fourth place with a (4-3) record, with their only losses at the hand of Waverly A, Waverly C, and Chillicothe A.

The winners of the tournament were Waverly A, who finished with an undefeated (7-0) record and the the most total points scored by any team in the tournament.

The complete standings for the tournament are as follows:

  1. Waverly A (7-0)

  2. Chillicothe A (6-1)

  3. Waverly B (4-3)

  4. Chillicothe B (4-3)

  5. Adena B (3-4)

  6. Waverly C (2-5)

  7. Adena A (2-5)

  8. Adena C (0-7)

Top scorer for the tournament was Waverly’s Tyler Fyffe with 1,250 points scored over seven games.

Next up for the CHS Quiz Bowl team is the new FAC league, which begins in January 2018, featuring Waverly and Unioto as Quiz Bowl exclusive teams competing against Jackson, Miami Trace, Washington Court House, Greenfield-McClain, Hillsboro, and Chillicothe.
